20 €When the Englishman Edward Foxhall discovered sandalwood on the New Caledonian Pacific island of Île des Pins in 1840, it was still unknown in Europe. The spicy precious wood – “candana” in Sanskrit and “sandal” in Arabic – had already made a name for itself at the end of the 19th century: it was used as a valuable ointment for hair and body care. In Asia it is still used today for smoking to help against inner restlessness.
