AHA

AHA - the abbreviation for Alpha Hydroxy Acid - is increasingly found in anti-aging care. The active ingredient strengthens the skin barrier, binds moisture, and ensures an even and fresh complexion. But products with AHA are also recommended for young skin prone to blemishes. The acids dissolve dead skin cells and thus prevent blackheads and pimples.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is considered a miracle remedy for well-hydrated and supple skin. The watery gel obtained from the inside of the Aloe Vera leaves is primarily found in body care products. However, there are also cosmetics and facial care products that contain Aloe Vera. The active ingredient has a cooling and refreshing effect immediately after application. In addition, Aloe Vera accelerates cell regeneration, has an anti-inflammatory effect, and stimulates collagen production.

Ambroxan

Ambrox, or Ambroxan, is produced by the reaction of ambergris with atmospheric oxygen. Ambergris, which comes from the intestines of whales, is with Ambroxan one of the most noble animal fragrance substances, otherwise only found in rockrose, cypress, clary sage oil, or tobacco absolute. Thanks to its pure and clean, woody scent reminiscent of musk and amber, Ambroxan is often used as a fragrance base.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are considered an all-round active ingredient in skincare. The primary task of these ingredients is to protect the cells from free radicals and thus protect the skin from inflammation and premature aging. Antioxidants include Vitamin A (Retinol), Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), and Vitamin E (Tocopherol).

Azulene

Azulene is a crystalline hydrocarbon compound whose name is derived from "azur" due to its blue coloration. Azulene is obtained as an oil during the steam distillation of certain plants such as chamomile flowers, vetiver, and geraniums. In skincare, azulene helps against skin impurities due to its anti-inflammatory and healing effects and is suitable for sensitive skin and allergy sufferers, as the active ingredient is non-irritating.

Bakuchiol

As a plant-based alternative to retinol, bakuchiol offers antioxidant properties and stimulates cell renewal. It is gentler on the skin and is particularly suitable for sensitive skin types.

BHA

BHA - the abbreviation for beta-hydroxy acid - has an exfoliating effect and is particularly recommended as an active ingredient for oily or acne-prone skin. Cosmetic products with BHA have anti-inflammatory properties, penetrate the pores, and reduce impurities and redness in the deeper layers of the skin.

Calendula

In the field of skincare, calendula, also known as marigold extract, is highly valued for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and irritation-relieving properties. Wounds and scars heal better thanks to calendula, and blood circulation is promoted, making the skin more supple and resistant to skin irritations. Especially for sensitive skin, care products with the ingredient calendula are recommended because they have a soothing effect.

Clean Beauty

Clean Beauty is not a protected term in the beauty industry. Brands that advertise their products as Clean Beauty indicate that they avoid controversial ingredients such as silicones, parabens, sulfates, preservatives, and mineral oils in their formulations. Clean cosmetics can thus be understood as care that is "free from" harmful ingredients. These can have hormonal effects and cause skin irritations and intolerances. Clean Beauty products are therefore particularly suitable for sensitive skin types, as only selected ingredients are used in production that are not under discussion for having effects on the body. However, Clean Beauty should not be confused with vegan care or natural cosmetics. Synthetic ingredients can also be sustainably produced and completely harmless to health.

DNA HP

DNA HP is a highly pure DNA molecule obtained from salmon roe. It supports skin regeneration, retains moisture, and has strong antioxidant properties. This protects the skin from environmental influences, promotes cell renewal, and gives a radiant, youthful appearance.

Fragrances

In the beauty sector, fragrances are primarily used in perfume production. Fragrances are usually created synthetically, but they can also be derived from plants (e.g., essential oils) or be of animal origin (e.g., musk). Fragrances are also often found in cosmetics to provide a pleasant scent to the products.

Eau de Cologne

An Eau de Cologne contains about 3-5% fragrance, making it a very light, less intense variant. Like Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne can be used several times a day to refresh the scent.

Eau de Parfum

A high-quality perfume is characterized by its fragrance intensity. The higher the concentration of fragrance oil, the more intense and long-lasting the scent. In Eau de Parfums, the proportion of fragrance is very high, usually around 10-14%.

Eau de Toilette

The concentration of fragrance oils in Eau de Toilette is lower than in Eau de Parfum and is about 6-9%. The scent is therefore less intense and can be applied generously.

EcoSun Complex

The EcoSun Complex is a specially developed and patented antioxidant by the brand Soleil Toujours, their secret weapon used in all their products. The complex counteracts the aggressive effects of free radicals and the resulting oxidative stress. The skin is thus cared for and protected from light-induced skin aging. The beneficial properties of red algae protect the skin from harmful environmental influences, provide moisture, and give a fresh complexion. Ascorbyl Palmitate delivers a rich Vitamin C boost, ensuring an even complexion and the formation of antioxidants. Vitamin E, as one of the most important antioxidants, protects the skin from the sun's ultraviolet rays as well as environmental pollutants. It also supports the regulation of Vitamin A, which is just as essential for a healthy complexion. Bisabol rounds off the formulation. Chamomile extracts soothe the skin and provide moisture.

Elastin

Together with collagen, elastin is one of the most important proteins for connective tissue in the body. While collagen ensures the firmness of the skin, elastin is responsible for elasticity and flexibility. As we age, the production of this structural protein decreases, leading to sagging and drooping skin. To halt this process and provide the skin with the necessary elasticity again, we recommend anti-aging skincare products enriched with elastin and collagen.

Enzymes

Enzymes are natural substances in the body that regulate metabolism and are found in all body cells. In the beauty sector, enzymes are primarily found in masks and peels for impure skin and to refine the skin's appearance.

Extrait de Parfum

An Extrait de Parfum is the most concentrated version of an Eau de Parfum due to its very high fragrance oil content of about 30-40%. The purest fragrance substances are enriched in 96% alcohol and give off a very intense sillage that lasts a long time.

“François Coty” Award

François Coty was a newspaper publisher, industrialist, and French perfumer considered the founder of modern perfumery. He learned his craft in a Parisian pharmacy and a perfume factory in Grasse. He became famous with his first perfume La Rose Jacquerminot. He was considered the founder of modern perfume art thanks to his newly discovered synthetic products. Through new extraction techniques, he was able to distill natural fragrance substances, which he combined with synthetic ones. This is how the perfume Absolue was created. As a tribute to his legacy for the art of perfume, an award bearing his name is given today to the greatest perfume artists, including Francis Kurkdjian.

Holistic Care

The concept of holistic care, also known as holism, focuses not only on combating symptoms but also addresses problems at their root. With the help of this care concept, holistic healing, that is, the regeneration of body and mind alike, is sought. In the luxury care segment, you will find soothing spa products that turn your care routine into a wellness experience and heal, relax, and illuminate the body and mind.

Glycerin

As a moisturizing ingredient, glycerin binds water in the skin and prevents it from drying out. It is ideal for dry and sensitive skin.

Skin Type

In general, a distinction is made between normal, dry, oily, and combination skin. Pore size, feelings of tightness, the tendency to blemishes, and sebum production can provide clues to the respective skin type. Determining your own type is essential for the right skincare routine and the selection of suitable care products. If assessing the skin condition proves difficult, it is advisable to have the determination made by a beautician or dermatologist.

Hyaluron/-acid

Hyaluronic acid is a component of human connective tissue. The body's own active ingredient is capable of binding large amounts of water. In cosmetics, hyaluronic acid is mainly used in facial care products (e.g., creams and serums) to have a plumping effect and ensure a full complexion. At the same time, products with hyaluronic acid are intended to prevent dehydration of the skin and wrinkles.

Hydroxycitronellal

As a fragrance molecule, hydroxycitronellal is often used in perfume oils or aromas. It occurs naturally in some essential oils or can be synthetically obtained by hydrating citronellal. The fine floral scent of the molecule is reminiscent of lily of the valley, lily, linden, lilac, and has extraordinary adhesion. Particularly in perfume production, the fragrance is suitable due to its fixing properties and is appreciated for its floral scent notes.

Jade

The gemstone jade unfolds its relaxing effect on the skin as a facial roller and transfers the balance and inner calm attributed to it to the user. Additionally, the beautiful green stone is anti-inflammatory and decongestant and also has a positive effect on skin blemishes and the body's own collagen production. A soothing massage for the skin, a relaxing journey for the soul.

Cold Pressing Process

Natural oils can be obtained from plants either by extraction or pressing. However, it is important that the pressing is done cold. Otherwise, the important ingredients of the plant are destroyed and they can no longer unfold their effect in the oil. Cold-pressed oils are particularly in demand in natural cosmetics. With their natural protective function and rich nutrient supply, they are the ideal addition to any care product for face, body, and hair.

Collagen

Collagen is a very important structural protein for the body, responsible for strengthening connective tissue and also binding moisture. The collagen fibers consist of amino acid chains that form a framework and thus give the skin its elasticity. With up to 30%, collagen is the most abundant protein in the body (skin, ligaments, tendons, bones, cartilage, skeletal muscles). However, as we age, collagen production decreases, leading to wrinkles and dry skin. Facial care with collagen provides the skin with sufficient moisture, replenishes the collagen reservoir, and helps achieve youthful, plump skin.

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver consists of tiny silver particles in a liquid and is valued in skincare for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It can combat skin blemishes, reduce redness, and support the healing of irritated skin.

Kukui Nut Oil

Kukui nut oil is the oil of the Hawaiian national tree, the kukui nut tree, and is extracted from its seeds. In care, the soothing and protective abilities of the oil are particularly beneficial for skin and hair. Especially rich in antioxidants and linoleic acid, it has a light natural sun protection factor. The soothing oil counteracts skin irritations from sunbathing, has a restorative effect, and ensures an even skin tone.

LemonLux®

LemonLux® is an innovative active ingredient based on the latest scientific and technological findings. It utilizes the intensive antioxidant and moisturizing effects of lemons from Sorrento and extra virgin olive oil. The result is smooth and radiant skin. Additionally, LemonLux® has an aromatherapeutic effect thanks to its delicate lemon scent.

Lymphatic Drainage

The lymphatic system is our body's own filtration system that filters out all substances like water, fats, and proteins that should not remain in the tissue. During lymphatic drainage, accumulated lymph fluid is moved to drain by massaging the face with facial rollers along the lymphatic pathways. This massage with very light pressure and the cooling of the gemstone facial rollers have a decongestant effect and accelerate wound healing. If the massage is performed with a warmed gemstone facial roller, the pores open, allowing care products and serums to be absorbed even better. When used cool, the face benefits from a decongestant and anti-inflammatory effect, and the skin texture becomes increasingly refined. To illustrate, we have selected this video for you, in which the use of a facial roller by YÙ BEAUTY is demonstrated by the founder, Dr. Anna Mandozzi herself*:

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is derived from filtered petroleum and is used in cosmetics in the form of certain hydrocarbons. Also listed as paraffins or petroleum jelly in care products, mineral oils contained in cosmetics make products long-lasting and are also easy to process. As foreign substances to the skin, mineral oils penetrate the upper layers of the skin and provide a temporarily pleasant soft skin feeling. However, in the long term, they are not recommended for cosmetic products as they also seal the skin and hinder its natural functionality rather than support it. Plant-based oils, as found in Clean Beauty, are a better alternative for the skin.

Molecular Fragrance

Molecular fragrances (or molecule fragrances) consist of up to six different molecules. Unlike classic perfumes, which consist of a top, heart, and base note, all ingredients in molecular fragrances develop simultaneously. Only in interaction with one's own skin do the scents reveal their true character. Unlike classic perfumes, which mask the body's natural scent, molecular fragrance creations deliberately emphasize it. Due to the individual combination with the wearer, the products unfold very differently for everyone, which is why molecular fragrances are considered the most individual form of perfumery and are also referred to as "fragrance haute couture."

Niacinamides

Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, has anti-inflammatory properties and helps improve the complexion. It strengthens the skin barrier, reduces hyperpigmentation, and regulates sebum production.

Oud

Oud is a very valuable fragrance oil obtained from the resin of the agarwood tree. The fragrance, originally from the Orient, can be found in men's, women's, and unisex perfumes. Since it is a very expensive ingredient, oud is used only in small quantities. Additionally, oud fragrances are said to have an aphrodisiac effect.

Parabens

Parabens are synthetic preservatives used to combat germs and bacteria in cosmetics and have been in use for a long time. Due to their alleged potential hormonal effects (butylparaben and propylparaben), they have fallen into disrepute in the beauty industry. However, cosmetic regulations are so strict that guidelines dictate the maximum limit values for the use of parabens, ensuring they are not harmful to health in products made in Germany. Products with a "Clean Beauty" promise consciously avoid using controversial ingredients and use natural alternatives such as sustainable alcohols or essential oils.

Perfume

A perfume (or extrait) is the highest quality and most expensive version of a fragrance. With 15-30%, the concentration of fragrance oils in perfume is significantly higher than in other versions (e.g., Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette), which explains its high fragrance intensity.

Peeling

Peelings are an essential step in the regular skincare routine. They remove dead skin cells and excess sebum, promote blood circulation, and thus ensure a fresh complexion. Peelings are an effective remedy against blackheads, clogged pores, and blackheads. Depending on the ingredients, a distinction is made between mechanical and chemical peelings as well as fruit acid and enzyme peelings.

Peptides

Peptides are an important component of our skin. They ensure a firm, wrinkle-free, and elastic appearance. In addition, peptides support the cells in their natural regeneration and strengthen their resilience. Especially in anti-aging care, peptides are used as ingredients with the aim of stimulating collagen production and strengthening the skin barrier.

Plant Wax

Plant waxes are obtained by hydrogenating vegetable oils. In this process, the wax is allowed to cool to room temperature. As a natural, environmentally friendly, and renewable alternative to paraffin, candles with plant wax are a pure natural product. The light, cream-like color of plant wax looks very elegant and the natural wax is less prone to soot formation.

Pheromones

The word pheromone comes from ancient Greek and means "carrier of excitement." The scent attractant is produced and released by all living beings and is usually used as a recognition or sexual attractant for nonverbal communication. Pheromones have a very special effect on the hormonal system of other people and can unconsciously influence their behavior.

Primer

A primer provides the ideal makeup base and is applied as part of the skincare routine after moisturizing. The product can be used for the entire face; however, it is also possible to limit the application to specific areas (e.g., eyes or lips). The creamy consistency of the primer gives makeup better hold. At the same time, wrinkles and unevenness are concealed, which ensures a more even appearance.

Retinol

Retinol is converted into retinoic acid (Vitamin A) when applied to the skin and thus counts as an antioxidant. The active ingredient is preferably used in anti-aging care because it supports collagen production and stimulates cell renewal. Moreover, retinol visually refines pores and prevents blemishes and hyperpigmentation. Since the active ingredient makes the skin more sensitive to light, it is primarily used in night care.

Rose Quartz

The rose quartz facial roller gives the skin a real energy boost. As one of the most powerful and popular healing stones, it helps reduce tension and stress in the face with its invigorating effect, cools the skin, and also has a firming effect. It provides a healthy glow and a positive mindset.

Silicones

Silicones are synthetic substances that are mostly found in hair and facial care products. They envelop the hair, smooth the skin, and give a fresh appearance. However, they also settle in hair and skin structures, seal the surface, and only break down over time. In the long term, high amounts of silicones can over-nourish the skin and hair and do more harm than good. Additionally, there could be hormonal effects causing irritation and inflammation.

SPF

The SPF (=Sun Protection Factor) corresponds to the sun protection factor - the higher the SPF, the more intensively the skin is protected from the sun. Products with SPF are used to prevent sunburn, prevent premature skin aging, and avoid pigmentation spots. In the cosmetics industry, SPF is primarily found in pure sun protection products as well as in day care or makeup.

Squalane

This lightweight, non-greasy oil provides the skin with intense moisture and protects it from drying out. Squalane is particularly skin-friendly and adapts to all skin types.

Sulfates

Sulfates are salts derived from sulfuric acid and are primarily used in cleansing care products. Their strong foaming property gives the feeling of particularly good cleaning, as dirt and oil are effectively removed from the skin. However, sulfates attack the natural skin barrier in this process and have a strong drying effect. People with particularly dry or sensitive skin should be cautious with chemical-based foaming agents, as they can cause skin irritation and dryness.

Synthetic Preservatives

Artificially produced preservatives are substances that make care products last longer and serve to protect against changes in the product due to light, air, and bacteria. However, they can lead to skin irritation and contact allergies in sensitive skin, which is why their use is not welcomed by all consumers. Certain preservatives are even considered sensible by the European Commission, but you should be cautious of formaldehyde, methyldibromoglutaronitrile, and methylisothiazolinones. These are either heavily restricted in use or completely banned in the EU. Clean Beauty avoids these controversial ingredients and relies on natural alternatives such as essential oils or alcohol for preservation.

System Care

System care refers to a 3-phase care system discovered in 1967 by dermatologist Dr. Norman Orentreich. The concept is based on a care routine consisting of soap, lotion, and toner, all containing the same main active ingredient. This allows it to effectively and specifically unfold its effect for special skin types and their needs. This routine has been expanded to include day and night care as well as extra care units such as face masks, peels, etc.

Surfactants

Surfactants remove even firmly adhering dirt and staying makeup due to their soluble properties, which is why they are often included in soaps. In creams, they serve as emulsifiers to guarantee a pleasantly soft consistency. However, if there are too many surfactants in care products, they attack the skin's natural protective barrier and deprive it of moisture.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C, like retinol, is one of the antioxidants. Cosmetic products with vitamin C are particularly recommended for combating sun damage, wrinkles, and any skin irritations. Additionally, vitamin C is a highly effective ingredient for reducing acne marks and pigmentation spots, thus ensuring a more even appearance. It should be noted that the skin reacts more sensitively to UV radiation after using vitamin C. Therefore, when using such products during the day, additional sun protection should be ensured.

Vetiver

The sweet grass from tropical Asia is used, among other things, for perfume production, naturopathy, and aromatherapy. Essential vetiver oil is obtained from the fresh or dried roots, which, with its heavy scent of forest and earth, has a particularly relaxing, balancing, and nerve-strengthening effect. Vetiver has a nourishing and regenerating effect on the skin. In particular, the connective tissue benefits from its strengthening effect.
